Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the puncture (punctio lat.) with the needle (acus lat.). To those new to the treatment, the idea of being pricked with needles often seems undesirable. I usually use needles with a diameter of 0.12 to 0.16 mm. These are rounded at their tip, so they do not hurt the tissue. They move between the cells to the acupuncture point. Most patients don’t feel the prick of the needle.
While the patient is lying relaxed, I leave the room and the needles remain in the body for about 20 minutes. This way the energy in the body is regulated, brought into balance, impulses are created, or blockages are released.
It is hard to imagine, but most patients fall asleep with the needles in their body. That is desirable, but not necessary.
Acupuncture can be used as a single treatment or in combination with Gua Sha, moxa and cupping.
